Welcome! My name is Chagai Weiss and I am Political Science PhD candidate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I am also a research affiliate of the Election Research Center. My interests lie in the intersection of ethnic conflicts and political economy, with a regional focus on the Middle East.
In my research I use novel data, and methods of causal inference to better understand individuals’ daily lives under the shadow of conflict. In my current work I study the effects of intergroup contact, on prejudice and pro-social behaviors. I am also working on several projects examining the electoral effects of combatant deaths, and the micro-level causes of urban violence.
When not working, I enjoy running, cooking and exploring new music.
